I've just finished reading The Unauthorised Alan Rickman Biography. I think he must have hated this book, LOL. It practically dissects his life and puts it on display in a very impersonal and almost scientific exhibition. Like he's some species of new plant or something. Although I did like reading about his theatre and film history since it's so hard to get my hands on any of his stuff in Singapore.
For some reason, his childhood coincides with what I imagine Severus Snape's childhood was like. Maybe that's why he took on the role... after all he's known to be extremely picky about the characters he act and he's been complaining about getting type-cast as a villain, so it must have been something about the character that appealled to him.
